Week 8:- 3D Finishing Challenge 2
Design of rough locator for car panel and 3D finish of the fixture
Objective:
- Design rough locators for the given car panel and the already made design of the fixture unit
- Perform 3D finish for the complete fixture unit
What is 3D finishing
3Dfinishing is the final process in which the fixture is made ready for testing and simulation, and then for production.
What to check in 3D finishing:
- Nominlity of all the parts
- Gaps between all the parts
- feasibilty
- Avoid clashes between the parts
- proper renaming of the parts according to the standard
- Checking for the holes nominality
What are rough locator ?
The rough locator is a part which is designed to locate the panel in the fixture when the part is loaded on the fixture.
This fixture has four rough locators, one on each side of the car panel
Changes made:
- Made holes in the base plate for bolting the fixture on the base plate
- All the holes are colored according to thier uses.
- Dovel holes are marked with blue
- Threaded holes are marked with yellow
- The sides of the part which needs to be machined are marked in red
- Re-named all the parts to standard name

Conclusion:
- The nominality for all the parts was checked.
- The gaps are maintained where they are needed
- There are no clashes between any part
- Rough locators were designed
- All holes were colored accordingly
- All the parts are name in standard
