Week 7-Long Piston With Cam
Long Piston With Cam
Objective:
To perform a transient analysis on a piston and cam mechanism model that has been provided to you. You need to run the analysis with Frictionless contact, Frictional with 0.1 and 0.2 as the frictional contact for a total of 3 cases. Find out the Equivalent Stress, Directional Deformation, and Equivalent Elastic Strain and compare them for all three cases. Give an inference as to why the results vary between cases.
Geometry file:

Mesh file:

Contacts setup:
Insert the connections between the cam follower to barrel cam and cam follower to the barrel as shown in the figure and the contact to be frictionless.

Joints setup:
By choosing a body-ground and barrel joint as a fixed joint and barrel cam as revolute joint and another joint to be body-body barrel to cam follower as a translational joint.

Analysis setup:
Consider 9 consecutive steps and give the initial timings to the step 1 and the rest of the nine steps separately by giving rotation to the barrel cam we can see as the barrel cam is rotating the cam follower follows the groove and the rotation of the cam follower are changed to the translational motion.
