Week 7 Challenge
1)
AIM :
To model a structure in the staad with the following details :
- Bay spacing 5 m
- Span of Truss 30 m
- Shape of Truss – Pratt Truss
- Slope of truss 20 degree
- Height of the column 15 m
- Floor Beams at 5 m from base
- Secondary beams at 1.5 c/c
- Length of the building 50 m
- Column Supporting Floor Beam @ 6 m c/c Along the frame

PROCEDURE:
- Open STAAD.PRO software that is already installed in the system
- Go to New option, select the folder where you want to save the file and fill the necessary details, also select the metric units.

- Click on create option to start modelling the structure.
- Now, add the Nodes to create the basic main frame structure.

- Now, right click on the screen and select Add beam option, now select the nodes to add the beams between the nodes.

- Now, we will add nodes to create floor beam using insert nodes options.
- Select the beam, right click and select insert nodes option.

- A dialogue box will appear, fill the distance at which we want to create the nodes and value of number of nodes to be inserted.

- Now, use the add beam option to create columns between the floor beam and supports.

- Create the roof truss using Structure Wizard under Geometry tab.

- Now, select the roof truss that we want to incorporate in our model and fill the required dimensions of the truss in dialogue box.

- Now, close the structure wizard and click Yes to merge the roof truss in our model. Fill the coordinates of the node where you want to add the roof truss.

- Now, the roof truss has been succesfully incorporated in staadpro model

- Now, we will use the translation repeat option to create the copy of the frame along the length of the building.

- Fill the required details in the dialogue box as per the given data.

- Now, the model has been made succesfully as shown in below figure.

Result:
Structure has been modelled succesfully as per the given details.
2)
AIM:
To apply Specification and member property for modelled structure as per given specifications:
- Columns - ISMB 500
- Truss -Top & Bottom chord – ISA 110x110x12, Diagonal member – ISA 75x75x8
- Purlins – ISMC 150
- Tie Beam – ISA 120x120x10
- Floor Primary beams – ISMB 300
- Secondary beams - ISMC 150
- Floor beam supporting columns – ISMB 300
- Assume bottom of the main column as Fixed support & intermediate floor beam supporting column as pinned
- Orient the Angle sections by applying Beta angle.
Procedure:
- Now, select the structural elements for which we want to add the specification and properties.
- Go Properties option, select the required section from the database.

- Select the country as India, and select the required section, for e.g., let us take the ISMB 500 section for the columns.

- Similarly, add the sections that are going to be used in the model.
- All the required sections have been added, now we can assign the properties to the structural elements, by selecting the mode of assignment and clicking on assign (Click on assign to select the beam).

- In the 3D Rendered option, we can see that properties has been assigned to the column.

- Similarly, we can apply the properties to the other structural elements.
- After assigning the properties to all the structural elements, our model in 3D rendering will look as shown in below figure.

- Now, similarly add the support to the column base.
- Go to Support option, select the nodes and click on create option to create the required type of support that we want.

- Supports to column base has been added.

- Assign the Beta angle to orient the ANGLE Section.
- On the property option, select the angle that we want to orient and click on beta angle, enter the value of beta angle to orient the angle sections.

- Now, go to 3D Rendering view to see whether the angle sections are oriented properly or not.

- It can be seen, in the 3D Rendered view, that the angles are properly oriented.
Result:
All the properties of the structural element has been assigned and angle section has been properly oriented using beta angle option.
3)
AIM:
To form group for the following members :
- External column
- Internal columns
- Roof Frames
- Top chord of the Truss
- Primary Beams
- Secondary Beams
Procedure:
- In the Select Tab, go to Group Option and click on it.
- Create the group names and select type as beam.

- Now, select the structural elements and associate them with the respective groups.
- Let us select the external columns and associate them with respective group.

- Similarly select the other structural elements and associate them with their respective groups.
- After the grouping is done, assigned will be mentioned in the bracket of the Create Group dialogue box.

Result:
All the specified structural elements have been associated with their respective groups.
