Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

AIM :- Meshing the hood component with the following quality criteria :-

S.N Quality Criteria Value
1 Aspect Ratio 5
2 Skewness 45
3 Warping 15
4 Taper 0.5
5 Min. Length 2 Units
6 Max. Length 8 Units
7 Min angle Quad 45
8 Max angle Quad 135
9 Min angle Tria 20
10 Max angle Tria 120
10 Tria % 10

Objective :-

1) Study the solid component and undertake geometrical cleanup.

2) Generate Mid surface for each component and performe topology and correction on it.

3) Meshing all the components as per the given quality criteria.

The Parent CAD Model :-

Procedure

1. The geometry was downloaded and opened in Hypermesh.

2. Solid CAD was deleted from each component and separate collector was created from the parent collector in order to store the respective midsurface.

3. After that with the help of Skin + Offset the midsurface was generated for each components. Following are the pctures of midsurface generated :-

4. After generating the midsurface, meshing with the above given criteria was undertaken. Following are the pictures of final generated mesh with respect to the given model.

5. Post generation of mesh property card for each components was defined and on the same the the thickenss as per respective components was assigned.

6. Final step would be to would be to clear all the failing elements generated while creating the mesh. Points considered while clearing the mesh qulaity was

a) The criteria which is given in the challenege should be cleared .

b) Mesh should cover all the feature Lines.

c) Keep the Trias under the allowable percentage , opposite tria should be corrected.

d) Trias to be avoided on to the filette .

Results

1) The total number of mesh generated on the model is 92452 out of this the number of trias are 1280(1.4%) and rest are quads .

2) Final model was completly ressembling as the parent solid model.
