Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

Q.1) ANSWER – OBJECTIVE – TO MESH THE HOOD AND ITS COMPONENTS ACCORDING TO THE GIVEN QUALITY CRITERIA.

PROCEDURE

1)- FIRST PHASE

1.1) The first step is to import the model [Import<Import model<and click on import to import the model]. (REFER IMG A)

1.2) There are four different components, so we have to mesh all of them individually.

1.3) The first step is to create a middle surface of every component in different components, check for any geometry clean-ups and then mesh the component and check if any element is failing the given quality criteria.

1.4) The quality criteria assigning process [Preferences< Criteria file settings< Set the given criteria < click apply and ok].(REFER IMG B)

1.5) Also assign four properties and thickness to respective components.

2) Latch_reinforcement_extract

2.1) First we extract the middle surface of the given component . [Command< Geometry< midsurface< auto extraction< select the displayed surfaces < and click on extract to get the middle surface component] (REFER -IMG 1)

2.2) After getting the middle surface we check for any free edges or geometry clean-ups before doing the mesh. (REFER- IMG 2)

2.3) We found some lines which can disturb our mesh, hence we remove it by the following command. [Command< Geometry< quick edit< replace points] (REFER -IMG 3).

2.4) Now we move on to mesh the component. We mesh the component surface by surface to achieve a fine mesh [Command< 2D< automesh< select surface and the target element size=5< and click on mesh]. (REFER- IMG 4)

2.5) For a finer mesh we try to minimize the trias. (REFER- IMG 5 and REFER IMG 6)

2.6) After the meshing is completed, we check if any element is failing according to the quality criteria [Command< 2D< qualityindex]. (REFER- IMG 7)

2.7) If any element is failing the quality criteria, we use the cleanup tools to stop it from failing. (REFER -IMG 8)

2.8) After we have successfully meshed the component and checked that no component is failing the quality criteria we move on to the next component. (REFER -IMG 9)

3) Hinge_reinforcement_extract

3.1) First we extract the middle surface of the given component [Command< Geometry< midsurface< auto extraction< select the displayed surfaces < and click on extract to get the middle surface component ] (REFER -IMG 10)

3.2) After getting the middle surface we check for any free edges or geometry clean-ups before doing the mesh.

3.3) No free edges or geometry errors were found hence we move to the next step of meshing the component.

3.4) We mesh the component surface by surface to achieve a fine mesh [Command< 2D< automesh< select surface and the target element size=5< and click on mesh]. (REFER- IMG 11)

3.5) While meshing to achieve more finer mesh we use the refine mesh option. [Command< 2D< rebuild mesh< select the elements< edit parameters <holes 2D< remove washers< and click on rebuild]. A much finer mesh is achieved. (REFER -IMG 12 and REFER – IMG 12.1)

3.6) After the meshing is completed, we check if any element is failing according to the quality criteria [Command< 2D< qualityindex]. (REFER- IMG 13)

3.7) We can see that many elements are failing hence we use the cleanup tools to bring them above the failing criterions. (REFER- IMG 14)

3.8) Now there are no elements failing in the quality criteria, and we move on to the next component. (REFER - IMG 15)

4) Inner_extract

4.1) First we extract the middle surface of the given component [Command< Geometry< midsurface< auto extraction< select the displayed surfaces < and click on extract to get the middle surface component] (REFER -IMG 16)

4.2) Since this component is a symmetric component, we can delete half the component and work on it so that less time is utilized. [Command< delete< select the symmetric surface to be deleted < click on delete] (REFER -IMG 17)

4.3) Now we will work on the symmetric portion of the component.

4.4) After getting the middle surface we check for any free edges or geometry clean-ups before doing the mesh. (REFER -IMG 18)

4.5) We replace points to get a proper mesh. (REFER -IMG 19)

4.6) We mesh the component surface by surface to achieve a fine mesh [Command< 2D< automesh< select surface and the target element size=5< and click on mesh]. (REFER -IMG 20)

4.7) After the meshing is completed, we check if any element is failing according to the quality criteria [Command< 2D< qualityindex]. (REFER – IMG 21)

4.8) We can see that many elements are failing hence we use the cleanup tools to bring them above the failing criterions.

4.9) After we remove all failing elements , we extract the other half of the component. [Command -Tool<reflect<select surfaces and duplicate it to the current component< and click on extract to extract the component ] (REFER -IMG 22)

5) Outer_extract

5.1) First we extract the middle surface of the given component [Command< Geometry< midsurface< auto extraction< select the displayed surfaces < and click on extract to get the middle surface component] (REFER -IMG 23)

5.2) Since this component is a symmetric component, we can delete half the component and work on it so that less time is utilized.

5.3) We create boxes to achieve a fine mesh [Command< 2D< automesh< select surface and the target element size=5< and click on mesh]. (REFER -IMG 24)

5.4) After the meshing is completed, we check if any element is failing according to the quality criteria [Command< 2D< qualityindex]. (REFER – IMG 25)

5.5) Since no element is failing, we extract the other half of the component. [Command -Tool<reflect<select surfaces and duplicate it to the current component< and click on extract to extract the component ] (REFER -IMG 26.1 ,IMG -26.2, IMG-26.3)

CONCLUSION – ALL THE COMPONENTS ARE MESHED AND NO ELEMENTS ARE FAILING THE GIVEN QUALITY CRITERIA .
