Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

WEEK 6 CHALLENGE

OBJECTIVE : generate seperate midsurface of each component and 2D meshing of component and check the quality of mesh of the given parameter and model check.

procedure: import the geometry of given challenge in .hm

there are four parts in this component

1 inner extract

2 outer extract

3 hinge rienforcement extract

4 latch reinforcement extract

inner extract

generate the midsurface

  • midsurface generated separately for each component the tool used for this midsurface>automid suf.
  • after the generating the mid surface create the prperty and matwerial and assign the thickness of 2.5 mm to the property.
  • mask the symmetric portion of the component beacuse it saves the time and esay to mesh.

fig1 shown above is mid surface generated and symmertic portion is masked. tool used for the mask (shortcut key F5)

geometry clean up

  • before meshing geomerty clean up is neccesarry for the better mesh flow a
  • some areas of component is diificult to mantain the mesh flow so that rearringing normal costruction line and feature line for good mesh flow and better quality mesh

fig2 shown above is some construction line on flat surface are toggled beacause those lines diverges the mesh flow . those line is not require so that toggled those line.

fig. shows above in this type region most element get failso that toggle the some line and make good surface for better mesh flow and and it prevent the failing element quality creteria. the tool used for the quick edit >

2D meshing (2d menu >automesh>surface> mesh.)

  • the given target element is 5 mm and mixed element for this compnent is meshing done through automesh option by selectng one by one surface completed mesh.
  • while meshing one by one surface try remove tria element wherver is not necessary and mantain the mesh flow.
  • opposite tria can be removed by th remeshing elemnt or rebuliding mesh option
  • rotaing quad element is removed just remushing that region.
  • some of tria element draged outside by using qulity index> drag tria element.
  • the tria elemnet in the fillet region can be removed by drag tria option.
  • tria in the feature line can be swapwed b y swap edge option.
  • after completion mesh wherver is mesh flow is not good it improved by smooting or rebulid mesh option

fig.shown above is opposite tria element is removed by remeshing that region or rerbulding option.

fig shown above is rotating squad are present it removed by rebuding mesh options.

fig shown is trai present in the fillet region .

fig shown above smoothing is required here. and it done by smoothing option.

quality index tool

  • it is element clean up tool where we can check element fail and wrost element. wrost element are in red colour and fail element in the yellow colour.
  • those element resolved by clean up tool that is called element optimize or place node or remeshing that region or smoothing tht region.
  • in this tool we drag the tria element the and also swap tria element.
  • and also we can split quad elemnet here and we can the trai element here.

check element(shortcut is F10)

the element should pass all given quality parameter.

1 warpage

  • the given warpage value is 15 to pass the element quality creteria. basically warpage element occurs whenever quad element are in two different plane or near free edge there is chance of failing for warpage.
  • to fix those element we can move the node in same plane or else split that element into tria.so that tria element will not have warpages.

fig show above warpage element on fillet region it can be fixed by place node in qualty idex option.

2 jacobian

  • jacobian basically are ideal shape element and the given valve is 0.6 it should pass this parameter.
  • jacobian can be fixed by just remeshing that area or else we can move the node manually until element should get pass the creteria.

3 minimum lengh

the given minimum length value is 2

to fix the minimum length fail element by just remesh or else optimizing the element or move the node untill itr get rid off.

4 maximum length

the given maximum length value is 8

fig shown above maximum length fail element to fix this by using smoothing the element or else remshing those element

similarly checked for maximum angle quad, minimum angle quad and maximum angle tria, minimumangle tria and taper ,skewness.

Model check

some of model check has done

1.check free edge are presenet in the element by using Tool>edges> element>find edges and if edges are found then it fixed by eqivalence.

2.element to surface edge check: it used check how element captured geometry .

3 check normals: the direction of vector it should in same direction

4 dependeny check: no depenendcy found.

5.penetration : no penetratio9n found

6.duplicate element check: no duplicate element found.

reflect the component after completion of all process.

above fig shown is inner extract copmponent.

similarly procedure done for rest of the component

outer extract

latch rienforcement

hinge reienforcement

here is final model image of the hood component as shown in below.

learning outcomes

  • i learnt from this challenge is 2d mesh and also learnt 2d menu option called skin, ruled, drag, line drag, element offset etc.
  • i learnt about mesh qualty criteria and also i learnt maitaing the mesh flow.
  • i leanrt about how to check the model check. and i leanrt quality index tool.
  • i learnt about how to set shortcut key and some tircks in hymermesh.

conclusion :

the given hood model genrated seprate mid surface for each component and meshing is done at target element 5 unit and given quality criteria has paased all the element and assign the thickness at 2.5mm to mid. and also model check has done.
