Week 6:- Clamp Unit & Pin-Clamp Unit Design Challenge
Challenge-6 week-6 Swivel CLAMP UNIT & Pin unit Design Challenge
Aim:
1. Design 3 different types of Swivel clamp unit with different pin, riser, blade and block.
2. Design a pin clamp unit for the given car panel.
Make a detailed report describing the process and attach relevant image.
Introduction
Swivel clamp units are used to hold car panels/components in place using a pneumatic cylinder and other arrangements. This can be opened to 90 deg and has a stroke length of about
100 mm. As shown in the figure below, all swivel units are made up of clamp and rest Mylar, clamp arm, blade, riser, shims, and various connector and resting blocks. In addition, a pin unit is provided in the swivel unit to limit motion, as shown in Figure 5.The below figure represents the different view of the swivel clamp unit with component.

Factor should be considered
- Must be suitable space to avoid any collision with cylinder and other parts during
opening and closing. - Pin clamp unit is used where two units need to be join.
- The clamping unit should be at least 10-15 mm away from the car panel to avoid any
damage. - Place all the components properly to get 100 mm stoke length.
- In open position of cylinder the Mylar should be at least 10 mm away from the panel.

The Mylar (clamp and rest), also known as the Finger or NC Block, is used to hold the panel/components in place while the operation is performed. The clamp Mylar is connected
to the cylinder via the clamp arm and will open and close. And the rest Mylar is resting on the blade. The blade is a critical component in this unit, as it is where all of the connections are made. Similarly, all assembled parts/components of any unit are mounted on the Riser to perform the operation, as shown in the figure below. Further the riser will be mounted on the base unit and it will be fixed properly.

Conclusion:
The three swivel clamp units and one swivel clamp unit with pin are designed based on the data provided. And the designed parameters were taken into account in the design of all units.
