Week 6:- Clamp Unit & Pin-Clamp Unit Design Challenge
Report on swivel clamping unit.
the fixed pin units are generally designed for guiding into the holes of the part .the fixed pin units designed for BIW fixture generally has the following components in it like.The round pin,pin guide,blade,riser etc.
1.location decision.
the location is decided where to place the pin so that the movement is arrested.the pin type may be round or diamond shaped.The round pin is generally used to arrest the degree of freedom of the part.the location points of the hole are decided accordingly.
2.constraints.
the constraint in the geometry are analysed so that the unit is accurately fitted.and dimensions are properly matched.
3.approach.
the top down approach is selected so pin is designed first then the remaining components are designed accordingly by going by top down approach.
4.dimension selections.
the pin size is selected according to size of the hole.the pin is placed 2 or 3 mm above the datum point.the pin retainer is used to place the pin accordingly.
5.swivel cylinder.
The swivel cylinder is generally attached to the pin for the movement of the pin.The normal cylinder is also used for clamping the plate so that it does not move.
6.Riser.
The riser is used as mounting base for the whole assembly onto it.
7.cylinder dimensions.
the dimensions of cylinder are generally taken into considerations.for design of the clamp unit.
2) Design of the pin unit.
The pin unit is generally used for locating the assembly properly in a position so that it does not move.The pin unit is multidirectional so that the movement is directed with help of shims.
1.location.
The location is properly selected so that it ushers balance of the assembly.and the balance is properly maintained.
2.shims.
the shims are placed so that pin is properly guided into it.
3.l plate.
the l plate is used to join pin retainer with it and it has two directional movement method to join it.
4.riser.
it is used to give proper height to the unit.
