Project 2

project submission of CPU fan case model.

Overview.

Task was generally to create core and cavity bodies along with the feed system, ejector system, cooling channels, and venting for air.The task in project was to do design optimization and design can be easily manufactured was the prime motive.

we will go by step by step approach to design the project.

1.cavity and core surfaces.

2.Assembly environment.

3.Cavity body.

4.Core Body.

5.Ejecting system.

6.Feed system.

7.Cooling channels.

8.Air vents.

let us generalize each process in detail.

1.Cavity and core surfaces.

commands used =tooling directions,scaling,split line,parting line,parting surfaces,

The model is used is CPU fan case the drafting analysis is done on the part to check sufficient drafts are provided or not.

a.Tooling direction.

tooling direction is direction along which core body moves .so the toolng direction selection is done properly.

b.draft analysis.

draft analysis is done to check whether sufficient draft is provided or not .if not then the information is conveyed to product design team\

c.Scaling.

scaling is done of part to compensate shrinkage after molding.

d.parting line.

Parting line is line where core and cavity surfaces meets in these product the parting line .the parting line selection selection should be in such a way that the minimum no sliders are required and matching draft is provided.

e.shutoff surfaces.

Shutoff surfaces are used to close holes of mold along tooling direction.Where we get mold separation.

f.Parting surfaces.

Parting surfaces are generally created along parting line and offset surfaces command is generally used to create the parting surfaces.

2.Assembly Environment.

Assembly Environment is environment used to create mutiple bodies within it and used a common plane system and origin for drawing the components.

steps

a.origin and plane system.

the part imported and assembly co-oordinate system is different so origin of part and co-ordinate system are mated or assembly co-ordinate system can be aligned to sprue.

b.fix float command for rotating .

3.cavity body.

Cavity body folders is created in assembly environment and the surfaces previously created is used for creating the cavity bodies and cut with surface command .The 2 bodies are created as 3D parting surface and parting line is generally used.

commands used =extrude body,offset surfaces,cut with surface.

4.core body.

Core body folder is created as the core surfaces are generally used for cutting core bodies and final core body is created .similar to cavity body two bodies are used for formation of body.

5.Ejection system.

Ejection system is assembly of ejector pins and ejector plates which is on core side used for ejecting the components. The ejector pins are of different sizes used for purpose of ejection and safe removal of part from mold.

6.sliders.

Sliders are generally used for catching the undercuts in mold and these parts two sliders are generally used and split command is used for that purpose.

7.Feed system

The feed system is used for feeding the plastic mold in mold area and the design should be robust so that its easy removal is also possible.

The feed system generally consists of sprue, runner, gate. The feed system is critically designed for that purpose.

8.Cooling channels.

The cooling channels are used for removing heat from the mold during soldification process and routing and placing of cooling channels are decided accordingly.

9.Air vents.

Air vents are provided to remove air from mold so that the it cannot create molding defects in the mold.the proper channels is created in cavity for that purpose.

general view of project.

I used step by step approach to complete the assignment
