Week 6 - CHT Analysis on a Graphics card

REPORTS

OBJECTIVES

To perform a steady state conjugate heat transfer simulation on a model of graphics card by varying the velocity and prove that convergence has been achieved.

THEORY

Congugate heat transfer relates to heat transfer in solid and fluids. It can happen through mainly three different process- conduction, convection and radiation. For example heat transer through a solid rod is an example of conduction. The conduction process happens through vibration/movement of molecules in the rod.

GEOMETRY

COARSE MESH

Here, there were just two elements and 12 nodes in the processor. So, more mesh refinement is necessary.

Mesh

RESULTS WHEN V=1M/S

Velocity = 3m/s

Velocity = 5m/s

Refined version of Mesh

RESULTS

WHEN V =1M/S

V=3 m/s

When velocity = 5 m/s

CONCLUSION

When we compare results between coarse mesh and refined mesh there was only a very little differences in temperature, pressure and wall heat transfer coefficient graph. The residuals were also falling below the designated level. This proves that the simulation has achieved convergence level using mesh convergence method. Potential hot spots here includes processor and finn.
