Week 1- Mixing Tee

Objectives

To perform a simulation in a mixing tee and compare the mixing effectiveness of a fluid.

Theory

Mixing Tee is a flow control device which contains two inlets each of different temperature and one outlet. It can be used in mixing various types of chemicals and gases. They are widely used in petrochemical, HVAC industry.

Geometry

Mesh Generation

There were certain limitations on number of cells. So, we had to increase the size of mesh element. There were 3155 nodes in and 14308 elements when the domain was discretized.

Meshing

There were certain limitations on number of cells. So, we had to increase the size of mesh element. There were 3457 nodes in and 15530 elements when the domain was discretized.

Conclusion

Average velocity came to be nearly similar for both of Tee which is around 30C. Momentum forces plays a vital role in proper flow mixing as seen in figure above. When the velocity of the cold water inlet was increased, we can visualize improvement in mixing.
