Week 6.1 - Setting up a model (Electronic enclosure)

Introduction: Forced convection in electronics is an important aspect of efficient performance as excess heat generation can damage the equipment. Natural convection in this case in not fisible as the flow over the elements is not enogh to genberate enough temperature drop. In such cases a fan/blower is introduced to blow air on the equipment to cool them. In this study an enclosure geometry is first simplified and a natural convection flow is simulated over it.

The conformal meshing helps reducin the mesh bleeding and provides good solution:

Setup:

As a natural convection simulation, Raditaion is enabled with Discrete Ordinate modelling. Initial velocti of 0.01m/s as radiation is enabled. A turbulent solver with zero equation nis used.

Results:

Temperature contours:

Conclusion:

Natural convection simulation shows that the values for temperature are under appritiale limiti to cause substantial damage to the component. Hence, we can clude that simulation is successful.
