Sphere pressing on a plate (Ansys Workbench)
Aim :
To simulate a Sphere pressing on a flat plate made of Structural Steel Non Linear material.
Material Used :

Procedure :
- Import the geometry of the model into Static Structural model settings

- We add symmetry region to the model to simulate the analysis on a complete sphere hitting the plate

- For the meshing the overall model was given an element size of 1mm. For the plate it is further refined by adding Body sizing with element size of 0.5mm to observe the analysis more accurately

- Fixed support is given to the bottom side to make the plate rigid when the sphere hits the surface.

- For the displacement of the Sphere, we provide a 4mm displacement on the Y-direction and after hitting the plate it then retracted back

Result :
Directional Deformation (Y-Axis) :

Equivalent Stress :

Equivalent Strain :

Conclusion :
The sphere presses the plate and again moves to the original position but the plate deforms and reamins as it is which indicates that the plate has undergone a Plastic Deformation which can be observed in the above results.
