Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

AIM:

Simulate the Sphere Pressing on the flat plate using ANSYS WORKBENCH.

OBJECTIVE:

Use Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non Linear.Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it. The plastic deformation must be captured.

GIVEN MODEL:

*The Given Model Consists only quater part of the original geometry since it is a symmetric geometry we make into quater part to reduce the computational time in Ansys.

PROCEDURE:

Assign the material as structural steel for both the cases by, Selecting the Engineering data >> Edit >> Engineering data sources >> General Materials >> Structural steel.

*Structural Steel is Assigned to Sphere and Properties of the structural steel is shown in below.

*Structural Steel NL is Assigned to Sphere and Properties of the structural steel NL is shown in below.

*After Assigning the material close the engineering data and open new space claim to make the required designs.

*Once geometry is imported from the space claim then open the model and eidt the geometry in Mechanical moduler.

*Assign the Contacts and targets according to the design model with contact type is Frictional,With Frictional co-efficient of '0.74'.

*Create Fixed Support at bottom face of the plate and Displacement at Top Face of the Sphere.

*After that Give all analysis setting in steps of 4.

MESHING:

Detailes of Mesh:

RESULTS:

EQUIVALENT PLASTIC STRAIN OF PLATE :

Max:1.8034 and Min :0

EQUIVALENT ELASTIC STRAIN OF SPHERE:

EQUIVALENT ELASTIC STRESS:

Mx:9888.5 and Min:0.005271

DIRECTIONAL DEFORMATION :

Max: 2.8028 and Min: 0.064154

CONCLUSION:

* By Observing the results we can see the plastic deformation occured on the plate after removing Sphere Displacement load.

*Maximum Stress and strain are occured at the contact between the sphere and the plate.
