Week- 5 - Solid meshing

Aim :- For the given Rear view mirror component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element as per Quality criterias given below and Use tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and check for the below quality after Volume meshing :-

S.No Quality Criteria Value

1 Target/Average length- 1

2 Minimum Length - 0.5

3 Maximum Length - 2

4 Tet collapse - 0.2

THEORY :-

1. If a CAD model have all significant dimensions with respect to each other then that model is considered as solid and Solid meshing is to be performed on them.

2. The type of meshing elememts available for this type of meshing in ANSA are TETRA, ORTHO TETRA, HEXA. few examples are :-

3. The quality criteria which is necessary for this project is TET COLLAPSE. TET collapse is one of the parameter which will be checked while generating tetra mesh on the model.tetra hedra mesh has 4 nodes and the same is calculated with the formula Min of (h/√A) ÷ 1.24. Where h is the height of the node from the opposite are and a is the area of opposite face.

PROCEDURE :-

1. Rear View mirror model was given by the skill lync. The model was studied as it was found out that the same was not oriented. So , the first step was to orient the model.

2. Next step was to perform the geometry check on the subject model. Few observations was reported on the model. The same were fixed with the help of auto fix.

3. Prior proceding to to meshing module, the quality criteria was defined in ANSA as per the aim.

4. Next is to locate a suitable entity on with a tria was to be meshed in 2D module. following element was selected and was divided into 1 mm element:-

5. After selecting the element the entity was meshed wuth 2D ortho Tria.

6. post completig the meshing, with the help of element volume mesh module >> the element was dtetcted as volumetric element. and on the same pop up box it was directed to convert the module as FEM TETRA.

7. Following ia the successfully converted 3D meshed model :-

8. It was seen that the there were few elements which were not qualifying the quality criteria post meshing. the same was re fixed.

9. Post completion of this, all the elements were selected and meshed. Then the elements were defined as olid as the same procedure sated above.

RESULTS :-

LEARNING

1. Tria were used in the place where the surface was flat.

2. Ortho Tria mesh is to be used in the curved surface having higher slope.

3. Post completing all meshing, kinks and upheaves needs to be resolved.

4. for undertaking the 3D meshing, meshing first is to be done on 2D surface without takin mid surface.

CONCLUSION

1. it is concluded that meshing generated in 3D meshing are irregular below the top surface. they are generated with the help of inbuilt algo of ANSA. Therere the same can be neglected.

2. On all the compnent which constitutes thickness more than 5 mm 3D meshing is to be undertaken.

3. 2D surface needs to me mesh properly prior being considered as Volumetric element.
