Week- 5 - Solid meshing

3D Meshing (Volume Mesh) with tetra elements of a Rearview Mirror using ANSA

Aim:
For the given Rear view mirror component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criterias given below.

objective:

  • geometrical checks
  • mid surface creation
  • generate 2d mesh and convert to 3d meash
  • check for quality criteria

convertion of 2d shell element to 3d tetra elements

procedure :

1) Import component and then Go for Length option from the mesh module to find out the actual geometry of a model

2) Perform topo on it, as the model is too distorted after importing from different software.

3) then do the check operation for the component.

3) After understanding the geometry, and its properties go for meshing.

4) Assign Quality criteria before beginning with meshing.

5) defeaturing is done where elements could fail.

6) then go for the Shell meshing of geometry that is 2d mesh and clearing quality issue like minimum and maximum length.

7) Defining volume and meshing the defined volume.

8) Clearing quality issues in the volume mesh that is tet collapse in the given value.

above picture shown that after importing the model looks like and it does not have any connectivity between any surface we have fix that by TOPO option.

above picture is that cons resolution tool and cons resolution is done as per target element size.

above picture is geomerty check has be done and fixed the error. and also defeaturing has done.

in above picture shown that 2d mesh is generated on the component and tool for this mesh module>shell mesh >best. element are used for this component is tria.

and quality criteria checked for this shell mesh that is minimum and maximum length and those failed element is fixed by recontructng the mesh.

above fig shown is for 3d mesh need volume so that we need create volume for the shell mesh so that defining the volume for the shell mesh and tool used for this volume mesh module>volume>define>select visible>ok.

above pictures is shows that tetramesh is generated on the component by defining the volume and creating tetra over the volume. and also tet collasped is fixed by recontructing mesh.

similarly done for the remaing properties.

above fig shown is complete mesh module of the rear view mirror .

learing outcome this challenge

  • learened type mesh in 3d module and when to go 3d mesh over 2d shell mesh.
  • learned how do to tetra mesh and which component have do tetra mesh.

conclusion

given Rear view mirror component is checked for the geometrical errors and meshed the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criterias and 3d meshing is done.
