Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
AIM
For the given models, check for the geometrical errors and delete surfaces which are unwanted for Surface wrap as shown in the videos. After clearing geometry, Merge all 3 models and perform surface wrap.
Target length for Wrap = 3 mm
Write a detailed report on steps followed to finish this challenge.
PREFACE
The surface wrap is used to create a watertight surface mesh which replicates the exact geometry of the model. The surface wrap is used to perform the external flow analysis which does not require any internal components. The accuracy of the surface mesh depends on the element size of the mesh, the smaller the element size better the refinement.
Here we are going to examine 3 cad models which are of an Engine, a Gearbox, and a Transmission system.
Each file is carefully checked for any discontinued or damaged surfaces and the extra surfaces are deleted so that we can get a clean and neat file which makes the meshing easy and without any errors.
ENGINE
This is the CAD file of the RAW Engine.

Now, we delete all the unwanted and overlapped surfaces from the RAW file. and finally, all the holes or unfilled surfaces are being closed by creating a new surface over there.

GEARBOX
For this gear box, only slight changes should be done. Other than that the file is clean

TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
Here also only slight changes should be done. Other than that the file is clean

Now, the most important step is to merge all three files into one. To do this within the engine file open file then click on merge and select the needed component. Then we get a completely merged file of the ENGINE, GEARBOX, and TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. Here each file is examined and the holes in the surfaces are filled.

Now, we need to compress all the deleted PIDs. Initially, we had 1583 files, now after compressing it was reduced to 242 files.

Now we need to choose options for surface wrapping.

And finally, the surface wrap meshing is done for 3mm size.

Conclusion
The power train system is successfully meshed using surface wrap mesh and is done for 3mm size.
