Challenge

Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

Aim

To check for the geometrical errors, delete surfaces which are unwanted for Surface wrap & merging of all 3 models and to perform surface wrap for the given models.

Introduction

Surface wrap is the process of meshing only the outside surface of a particular component. The parts inside will be kept as it is.This type of meshing is only used when we are interested in the external fluid flow analysis. This is usually done for complex geometries i.e when a geometry has lots of complicated components.

Procedure

1.The components are opened as it is into ANSA.

2.In the above given figures we can see that there were lot of errors. So the errors were rectified in all of them and the correct pictures are given blelow.

3.The errors that we found on the transmission and the gearbox were negligible so the same was used to merge with the engine block with help of merge option in the menu bar.

4.In this final step the wrap option was used in the meshing interface and the target length value was given .

5.In the final step the surface wrap was done to the entire setup.

Result

The required surface wrap was done with the given target length values after removing the errors that occured on the surface and by merging all the other components as well.
