Week - 5 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

Title: - 2D meshing for Plastic components

Aim: - To comprehend and utilise ANSA for 2D meshing on plastic components.

Objective: - To study and exercise geometry correction

To become proficient in meshing and properly extracting midsurface.

To maintain adequate mesh flow while reducing the tria % to its minimum

To eliminate the majority of any potentially undesirable elements in accordance with the standards for quality

Body of the content: -

Model Name: - Symmetry_Bottle_Cap

procedures used with a CAD model.

Importing geometry

Geometry Check: -

Topo and geometry checks are being done on imported geometry.

Mid-surfacing: -

Mid-surfacing of plastic component includes many steps and different features are used to extract mid surface properly

Offset: - offsets the uniform thickness part.

Middle: - Extracts mid surface of non-uniform thickness parts.

Cons2Curve:- surface can be formed by extracting cons to curves and later creating surface from them.

After mid surfacing all the surfaces must be stitched together as provided in parent geometry for that the following features are used

Intersect: - To intersect two different surfaces and separates them

Extend: - to extend the targeted surface up to face for recreating joint like parent geometry

Pre-processing (before meshing): -

Assigning Length (the supplied value of "1") to both parameters and macros.

Whatever element length that is provided should be assigned; in our example, this is the 1

Feeding provided quality criteria. - In accordance with the model's accuracy requirements, we have established quality standards.

The criteria in this case are.

Meshing: -

In the beginning, utilise the "Best" meshing option, and then use the "Reconstruct" feature on the parts where the mesh flow can be enhanced.

To Removing error occurring elements (off elements) according to quality criteria we can try to reconstruct them.

It is important to avoid trias (at the free edge, at the circumference of the circle, and opposite trias), which can be eliminated or enhanced using the independent or combined methods of split, swap, collapse, and join.

Here an image representing unavoidable off elements…

Completed model image: -

Results: - Quads: 8486

Quad percentage: 96.70%

Trias: 290

Trias Percentage: 3.30%

Total: 8776

Off elements: 46

Conclusion: -

I have gained a thorough understanding of 2D plastic component meshing via this project, including geometry clean-up, fine meshing.
