Challenge

Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

AIM:

For this challenge, you will have to perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire in ANSYS. You will have to use Copper Alloy (Non Linear), Aluminium Alloy (Non Linear) and Magnesium Alloy ( Non Linear) for the wire alone. You need to find out the Equivalent stress and Equivalent strain on the wire alone. Compare the results and submit

Procedure:

  • Open the Ansys work Bench and import the Given model.
  • Before importing the given model we should have to create the engineering material of Aluminium,Copper,Magnesium Alloy.
  • We should import the model and rename the Three parts as Wheel ,wire,Lever.

  • we should have to create the contact in the connection we should have to delete the two contact present in the intial phase and we should have to create the duplicate contact and flip the contacts and rename.

  • we should have to select the contact and Target bodies on the contacts.

  • we should have to give the Joint connection in the model.
  • For the joint connection we use the revolution joint and we should have to give the refrenece geomentry according to the given direction.

  • we should have to create the mesh sizing for the contacts given below with the mesh size of 2.2mm for the model.

  • we should have to create a Refrenece Geomentry in the given model and we should have to select the Taraget contact.

COMPARISON OF EQUIVALENT STRESS ON THE WIRE ALONE:

Stress

Copper Alloy

Maximum= 638Mpa

Mininum=0.4385Mpa

Aluminium Alloy

Maximum=464.75Mpa

Mininum=0.0025Mpa

Magnesium Alloy

Maximum=449.73Mpa

Mininum=0.00024Mpa

Strain

Copper Alloy

Maximum=0.0031766mm

Mininum=7.80028e-8mm

Aluminium Alloy

Maximum=0.0065932 mm

Mininum=0.00001mm

Magnesium Alloy

Maximum=0.01006mm

Mininum=0.00001mm

CONCLUSION:

Thus,I performed an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire in ANSYS by using the materials as Copper Alloy (Non Linear),

Aluminium Alloy (Non Linear) and Magnesium Alloy ( Non Linear) for the wire alone.
