Challenge

Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

Aim: Perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire in ANSYS

Procedure:

The analysis we are doing is a static structural analysis and Since we have to do an analysis on three different materials and compare the results. Aluminum alloy Nonlinear, Copper Alloy Nonlinear, Magnesium Nonlinear, and Stainless Steel are added to the engineering data.

                                          (Aluminum Alloy)

                                       (Copper Alloy)

                                       (Magnesium Alloy)

Before we can begin analysis we need to create a model with the given dimensions but since the model is already given it is imported using the import option in the geometry and the model is checked for any imperfections

Once the model is updated, contacts have to be established The contacts are frictional in nature and a frictional coefficent of 0.2 is given

We have to perform mesh of different sizes over materials plates and wire material id meshed with smaller element size

After the Meshing is done the model is set for boundary conditions

                                 (Fixed support1)                                                                                  (Fixed support2)

 Results:

1:Aluminum Alloy

Equivalent Stress

Equivalent Strain

Total Deformation

2: Copper Alloy

Equivalent Strain

Equivalent Stress

Total Deformation

3:Magnesium Alloy

Equivalent Strain

Equivalent Stress

Total Deformation

Conclusion

On Comparing all the three Result It is found that wire made of aluminium Alloy has the least stress where as wire made of copper alloy has the highest stress where as  Copper alloy wire has the least strain where as Magnesium Alloy wire has the highest strain
