Week 4:- Pin Unit Design Challenge

WEEK 4 = PIN UNIT DESIGN CHALLENGE

AIM = Design Fixed pin unit and Retractable pin unit with Pins, Risers, Blade, Cylinder and Block. Write a detailed report describing the process and attatc relevant images.

DESCRIPTION

  • TYPES OF PIN UNITS:
    • Fixed pin unit- Pin is fixed by means of a pin retainer & riser.
    • Retractable pin unit- Not been fixed, there is the provision of moving of pin in the up-down direction.
  • FORMULA & CALCULATION:
    • Length of the screw = [1.5 X (std. hole size)] + {distance between the surface of the part to the first surface of the other part}
  • PURPOSE OF PIN UNIT:
    • As by the 3-2-1 locating principle, the introduction of two pins helps to arrest the 6 degrees of freedom (4 axial & 2 radial movements) whereas the other 6 degrees of freedom are arrested by introducing a minimum of three supports.
    • Typically, the locating pins are used to locate a body part in a position sufficiently accurate to execute a welding process. The body part is constrained by a set of appropriately locating pin so total constraint by locating pin should be fully constrained at all times to prevent any movement.
  • FUNDAMENTALS OF PIN UNIT DESIGN:

REPORT

  • All the parts except the boughout ones such as fixture base, cylinders are being designed according to industrial standards in CATIA V5.
  • All the parts are properly constrained and aligned needfully.
  • The product file is named as with refrence to the video as P001_Z01_ST010_00_00 and other products are alined acccording to the same procedure as followed.
  • Single and double retractable cylinders are used and inserted in the hardware product file.
  • Proper Tree structure is followed as with giving proper representations to it.
  • Needed images and part files are attatched below for further reference.
  • ***CAD Drawing of standard screws are not been available to me, so its not been attatched and all the sides and notations are aligned as good as possible.***
