Week - 4 - Crash Box Simulation
Aim- To simulate a crash test for a crash box.
Objective-
1. To create a rigid wall on with the box will crash.
2. Assign the steel material for the box.
3. Apply the velocity to the box of 50 kmph.
4. To plot the stress.
Procedure-
1. Import the model.

2. Model the rigid wall.

3. Apply the initial velocity.

since the given velocity is 50kmph which will be equal to 13.89 mm/ms.
4. Create the shell card for the box with the shell thickness of 1.2 mm for one simulation and 1.5 mm for other.

5. Create the material card with the given specification.
- Density of Steel (RO) – 7.83 x 10-3 gm/mm3
- Young’s Modulus (E) – 207 x 103 MPa
- Poisson’s Ratio (PR) – 0.3
- Yield Stress (SIGY) – 250 MPa

6. Create the hourglass card.

7. Apply the data base card.

8. Create the cross section.

9. Create the Control termination card.

10. Start the analysis for both the conditions.

Results and Plots
Animation for the both the condition is uploaded for the von misses stress in the x direction.

Conclusion-
In this chaleenge we have succesfully run the crash analysis on the box with two different shell thickness condition.
we can see that the 1.5 mm thickness shell have more energy absorbing capacity than the 1.2 mm shell.
