Week-4 Challenge WOT Condition Part-2
1. Mapped Engine - It is a default setting in Powertrain Blockset. it acts as a collection of lookup tables for e.g - massflow, fuel consumption, brake torque etc. Mappped Engine modelling is less accurate and best if engine subsystems are not required for analysis. It is suitable for less accurate design and analysis.
MAPPED ENGINE

Dynamic Engine - It breaks down the engine behaviour into lower-level charecteristics that can further be segregated. For e.g - Stiochiometric ratio, control algorithm etc.

Motor - It is a device which is used to convert input electrical energy to output mechanical energy. Most of the energy conversion occurs due to the generation of a magnetic field around the core of the motor. There are different kinds of motors available in the market for various applications.
Generator - A generator is device which does the reverse of a motor. It converts the inout Mechanical energy to output electrical energy. Several Mecahnical energy conversion devices has come into the light for e.g. - Steam Turbine, Wind Turbine, Hydroelectric Powerplants etc.
Steps to Change the Model Type
Click on Modelling Tab
2. Select variant manager
3. Expand Generator Tab
4. Right click on either of the inactive engine modes
5. click on active and it will get activated.
2. Model Calculation Miles Per Gallon
Miles Per Gallon is the fuel consumptiion rate that determines how much distance a car with an IC Engine will travel on One Gallon of Gasoline or Diesel. In reference to an Electric Vehicle, this calculation determines how much electrical energy will be consumed from the battery for th same fixed distance that is covered in MPG calculation.

Factors Considered For Input -
- Vehicle Speed
- Fuel Flow Volume
- Battery Power

Outputs
- US MPG
- Litres/100 kilometers
3. WIDE OPEN THROTTLE with Different Conditions
Intial WOT Simulation without changing parameters

Results
Default Condition
grade = 0
velocity = 0

Changed Condition
Grade = 5 degree
velocity = 10 m/s

Result Comparison

- There is a significant difference between the Maximum Speed due to the gradeability and the wind resistance in the second condition.
- The above reason is leading to the Fuel Economy to be more in the first case than the second case.
- Due to harsher conditions a higher Battery State of Charge is required to overcome the conditions.
4. Comparison of EV and HEV
In the 3rd part we have declared the HEV Model and the graphical analysis of the same.
EV Drivetrain

Nominal velocity = 50 m/s
Simulation Time = 100s
Grade = 5 degree
velocity = 10 m/s
COMPARISON

EV has
- higher motor torque
- draws more current from battery
- has a higher State of Charge (SOC)
- has a higher fuel economy
HEV has
- higher Speed
- lower motor torque
- Engine Torque
- lesser deceleration time
