Week-4 Challenge WOT Condition Part-2
Question 1 :- What is the difference between mapped and dynamic model of engine, motor and generator? How can you change model type?
1) Mapped Model :- uses a set of steady - state 2- d look up table to characterize engine / motor performance .The tables provide overall engine characterstics , including actual torque , fuel flow rate ,BSFC, and engine - out exhaust emissions . This model leads to faster solving times.
2) Dynamic Model :- dcomposes the engine behaviour into engine / motor characterstics that are seperated into lower - level components By combining components in this way the models capture the dynamic effects They are used.
- To change between Mapped & Dynamic model -
Open the hybrid matlab powertrain files as seen below.
Open passenger car block and sub block seen below.

Open electric plant block and sub block seen below.

Open Genrator Block and sub block seen below.

Right Click and select the option to change the model.
- Variant
- label mode active choice
- GenDynamic

Question 2 :- How does the model calculate miles per gallon? Which factors are considered to model fuel flow?
Factors affecting the fuel efficiency are listed below
1) Veichle Speed
2) Battery Power
3) Fuel Flow

Question 3 :- Run the HEV ReferenceApplication with WOT drive cycle. Change the grade and wind velocity in the environment block. Comment on the results.
- HEV POWERTRAIN CONFIGURATION:

- HEV Refrence Application Blockset

- WOT Drive cycles Inputs
Total Simulation Time = 100s
Nominal Speed = 50 m/s
Deacleration time = 50 m/s
1) case 1 :- Grade = 0 degree and wind velocity = 0 m/s

2) case 2 :- Grade = 5 degree and wind velocity = 10 m/s

Question 4 :- Keeping all other parameters same, compare the simulated results of hybrid and pure electric powertrains.
EV Powertrain Configuration :-

EV Refrence Application Blockset :-

3) case 3 :- Grade = 5 degree and wind velocity = 10 m/s

Observations :-
- The Powertrain achieves a lower torque speed when compare to a HEV Powertrain .
- since the motor is the only propulsion source in an EV Powertrain , the motor needs higher rated power and genrate the instantatenous start up torque to propell the vechile.
- The conventional HEV's used lead acid battery where as the EV's used lithum ion cells which have more energy density.
- EV has superiour fuel economy than a conventional HEV
