Week 4 Challenge : CFD Meshing for BMW car
Aim:
To do the geometrical clean up and surface and voumetric meshing of Given BMW Car Model.
Procedure:
1. Check the car interior and exterior for any overlapping surfaace, single cons and triplecons.
2. Delete all the unwanted surfaces
3. Use extend, intersect, paste option etc to remove the single cons
4. In order to get the volumetric mesh there should be only one volume inside the car. Examine the interior of the car and make as single volume.
Glass, Grills are treated as single volume
5. Silencer and four tyres are external volume. clear the single cons and triple cons in tyres and silencer.
6. Mesh all the parts with following target lengths,
- Body - 3 mm
- Lights - 4 mm
- Grills - 1 mm
- Rims and Tyres - 2 mm
- Optical Rear view mirror - 2 mm
- Window - 2 mm
- Silencer - 3 mm
- Logo - 1 mm
7. Check for the parallel lines in all the parts smaller than minimum target length and rectify it.
8. To achieve the quality criteria use smooth, move etc option in the 2D mesh.
9. OFF elements are corrected for each parts.
10. Create the 2D surface of wind tunnel with the standards of 6x in back, 4x in front, x in sides, and 3x in top. Remove single cons.
11. top surface target length is 100 mm and bottom surface target length is 20 mm was set
12. surface meshing in wind tunnel was done by spacing length option etc.
13. Create the volumes.
14. Eight volumes were created.car interior, four tyres , two silencers and car exterior.
Keep the car exterior and wind tunnel and delete remaining seven volumes.
Learning outcomes:
very useful in exploring all the options in ansa and created the confidence for 3D meshing.
Result:
meshing of car exterior and wind tunnel was created
Conclusion:
wind tunnel of BMW car was created after geometrical clean up and meshing.
