Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Aim:

To mesh the given valve for the mesh size of 1mm, 3mm and 5mm.

Procedure:

  1. Run the Geometry check for single cons etc.
  2. Do the geometry clean up by filling the hole , cut the faces which is exceeding above the mesh length
  3. Assign the PID for the desired surfaces. Here PID assigned for base, valve head, inlet, outlet, spring, column, body
  4. Rerun the geometry check .
  5. Set the target length as 1mm, 3mm and 5mm , and mesh length quality criteria.
  6. Mesh all the surfaces of the give model

Learning outcomes:

Week 2 videos helps to learn how to do geometry check, cleaning the geometry, assigning PID, 2D meshing for CFD.

Result:

Meshing of the given model with length of 1mm, 3mm and 5 mm was done.

Conclusion:

In 1mm mesh length there are 209832 elements gives the fine meshing

In 3mm mesh length there are 23962 elements gives the average mesh quality

In 5 mm mesh length there are 8784 elements. But the mesh quality is poor for parts like spring and valve head
