Week 4 Challenge : CFD Meshing for BMW car
Aim/Objective
- Surface Mesh the given solid with different grid lengths for each parts
- Create wind tunnel for CFD applications and surface mesh it
Procedure
- The geometry is cut into half exvluding logo
- Then geometry checkup is done
- Overlapping sirfaces are deleted
- Surfaces which does not have the influence on the shape of the body are removed in order avoid forming new unnecessory volumes
- Surface that are poped out of the car body are deleted using intersection option
- Single cones and triple cones are fixed
- After geometry cleanup the half body is mirrored to form the full car shape
- Wind tunnel is created in such a way that the enterance to the centre of car is 4 times the length of the car and the exit of the wind tunnel is 6 times the lenght of car apart from the centre of gepmetry
- The top surface is made 3 times the length of the car and bottom surface is made 10 mm below the tires
- Then surface mesh is done each part
- Checked if it meets the quality criteria
- The side surfaces are given the gradual growth in mesh size from bottom to top so the mesh is finer where the car lies
- Checked for any intersections
- Moved on to volume meshing
- Found volume between car and wind tunnel which is the volume that we need

Learning Outcomes
- Advanced surface cleanup
- Deleting unwanted faces
- Solving intersections , triple cons, single cons
- Making the solid simpler so to detect volumes as intented
- Surface meshing tools
- Creating wind tunnel
- Volume meshing
Result
- For extracting volumes the geametry shall contain no triple cons, single cons or intersections
- Sharp edges should be carefully meshed as the mesh sizes may affect the shape of the geoetry there and can further cause intersection errors

Conclusion
- Surface meshed the given geometry
- Wind tunnel is created
- Volume is extracted
