Week 4 Challenge

  1. Calculate dead load in design report based on IS code and apply dead load on the model
  • Finishes of 50mm
  • Slab as per design
  • Brickwall 150mm thickness
  • Roofing load based on purlin size
  • Ceiling loading 0f 0.3KN per sq m

ans)

Dead load calculation:

self weight of slab ( software ).

finishes = 50mm * 24kn/m3 ( unit weight of concrete )

= 0.05*24

= 1.2 Kn/m2.

brickwall load = thickness * unit weight * length

= 0.15 * 20 * 5.2

= 15.6 KN/m. (Ground floor to first floor)

brickwall load ( first floor to intermediate floor )

brickwall load = 0.15 * 20 * 6.8

= 20.4 KN/m.

brickwall load ( intermediate floor to roof )

brickwall load = 0.15 * 20 * 4.8

= 14.4 KN/m.

Roof load = 1.5KN/m.

ceiling load = 0.3Kn/m

1) after doing the above calculations, open tekla, go to loads.

2) select load cases and enter the following cases.

3) after that click on next and generate the load combinations.

4) now go to load and select area load and enter the value 1.2KN/m and click on slab.

load will be applied on slab.

6) to apply the brickwall load, go to load select udl and enter the value as 15.2kn/m for ground floor

and select all the beams , load will be applied.

7) similar way apply the loads for secondary beams.

8) reapeat the same procedure for next floor and roof.

  1. Calculate live load in design report based on IS code and apply live load on the model
  • Assume the loading based on IS 875
  • Roof loading
  • Consider equipment loading as 5KN per sq m

live loads for industrial building:

staircase = 5KN/m2

workshop = 5KN/m2

corridor = 5KN/m2

meeting room = 5KN/m2

store room = 5KN/m2

toilet = 2KN/m2

canteen = 3KN/m2

equipment = 5KN/m2

1) taking all these live loads from IS 875 part2 ,they will be applied on all the rooms of all the floors.

  1. Generate a calculation for 5T crane loading based on following inputs
  • Centre to Centre of wheel = 10m
  • Weight of crab = 40 KN
  • Number of wheels = 4
  • Wheel base = 2m

soln.

crane capacity = 50KN

self weight of crane girder excluding trolley = 40KN

weight of trolley = 10KN

centre to centre distance of wheel = 10m

wheel base = 2m

number of wheels = 4

maximum point load on crane = crane capacity + weight of trolley

= 50 + 10

= 60KN

self weight of crane = 40KN

udl = self weight of crane/ distance between gantry rails

= 40/14 = 2.89KN

taking moment about B,

Ra*14 - 60*13 - 2.88*14.7 = 0

Ra = 75.25kn

assume self weight of gantry girder as 1.2KN/m

self weight of rail section = 0.3KN/m

total dead load = 1.8KN/m

BM = wL2/8

BM = 1.8*5.5*5.5/8

Bm = 6.81KNm

taking moment about C,

Rd*5.5 - 75.8*3.475 - 75.8*0.6875 = 0

Rd = 56.9KN

taking moment about D

Rc * 5.5 - 75.85*4.8125 - 75.85*0.6875 = 0

Rc = 94.81KN

M2 = Rd*2.0625

M2 = 56.9*2.0625

= 117.35KNm

calculation of shear force

V = wL/2

= 1.8*5.5/2

= 4.95KN

for live load

taking moment about F,

Re *5.5- 75.85*5.5 - 75.85*2.75 = 0

Re = 113.75KN

for impact load ,

impact load = 10% of maximum wheel load

= 0.1*113.775

= 11.38KN

maximum shear force = 4.95+113.75+11.38 = 130KN

Lateral load analysis = 5% of total weight

= 0.05*60

= 3KN
