Week-4 : Basic Calibration of Single cylinder CI-Engine
1) main differences between SI and CI engines are :
i) SI engine uses spark plug and CI engines use Fuel injector.
ii)Si engines have high octane numbers and CI engines have high cetane numbers.
iii) self-ignition temperature for the si engine is high whereas for the CI engine it is low which is the main reason we use a spark plug in the Si engine.
iv)In an SI engine the flow through the valve will be tumble and in a CI engine, it is a swirl motion.
2)BSFC: which is called Brake Specific Fuel Consumption. It is fuel consumption in the engine to the brake power. and it is also the fuel consumption required to rotate the shaft.
Exhaust temperature: It is the temperature after the combustion of the engine which will be released from the exhaust.
a/f ratio: Air to fuel ratio plays a major role in the combustion and we can also change whether we want a rich or lean mixture.
rich mixture: more fuel than air
lean mixture: more air than fuel
3) There is a decrease in torque and power when we change to MFB 50.
