Week-11 : Discretization of 3D intake manifold using GEM-3D
aim: To add a case in a single-cylinder DI engine with a discretization length of 0.1 mm for the intake runner and compare the
torque, BSFC, maximum cylinder pressure, and simulation time, with the above problem, also explore "Building intake manifold from STL model".
1) Initially we have to open 1cylDI_final.gtm. to open the file first click on tutorials -> go to modeling application -> go-to engine performance -> then click on 1cylDI or SI -> Then select 1cylDI_final.gtm.
2) Then click on the intake runner and Type [dis_value] in the discretization length so that it shows in the case setup file. then go to case setup add one case keep the speed as same and change the value of the discretization length in the second case to 0.1mm length. then run the case and compare the values.
3) from the values there is only a major change in simulation time and there is less than 0.5 change in performance.
exploring Building an Intake Manifold from an STL File:
- initially we have to import the intake manifold from the STL file given by the GT suite installation.
- then we have to separate sections by curves using the cutting plane, a three-point cutting tool.
- then converting sections into flow components. Do the right click we will be having an option as convert shape to component.
- If we click on the dialog box opens the first thing it asks about the number of bends.
- then conform the radius of both sides of the pipe and click on next.
- double click on init and give the temp, pressure value, and composition as a fluid mixture.
- then we have to divide pipe sections with area changing using cutting planes.
- then we have to convert sections to general flow splits and convert them into components.
- then at the final stage discretize the model and export it into the GTsuite model. then run the file
conclusion: from the first discretization length is inversely proportional to the simulation time.
and from the second we can make proper results from the 3D bend angle components like the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, etc.
