Week-6 : Turbocharger Modelling
aim: different types of turbochargers and locating them in gt suit, exploring tutorials 6 and 7, plotting the operating points of compressor and turbine, application of VGT, and exploring diesel VGT EGR and understanding the model.
1)different types of turbochargers :
i)single turbocharger
ii)twin turbocharger
iii)variable geometry turbocharger
iv)electric turbocharger.
in gt suit, we have VGT -EGR turbo example: go to examples ->select Engine_1D_Gas_exchange_combustion. -> select boosting -> select turbo matching ->then DI_VGR_EGR.gtm.
for twin turbo: go to examples ->select Engine_0d_Sil and Hil -> xRT-3pt4L-V6-Twinturbo- GDI.gtm.
for WGcontroller: go to example -> select diesel ->select Engine_1D_Gas_exchange_combustion.-> select Diesel_WGController ->select Diesel_WGController.gtm.
3)Firstly I took the diesel WG controller example and plot the compressor and the turbine operating points by changing the injected mass in each case and also the boost target in the case setup.
4)The Variable Geometry Turbocharger is helpful in lower RPMs and reduces the turbo lag by changing of the geometry.
5) In the example given model is an inline 4 cylinder with VGT, EGR. Where VGT is Variable Geometry Turbocharger and EGR is Exhaust Gas recirculation. the model starts with air intake it flows through the compressor -> intercooler -> through EGR Throttle valve ->through intake manifold -> then into the cylinder -> Then Combustion -> one will go through the EGR valve and another will go through the exhaust manifold -> then to the turbine (in turbine we will have VGT Rack control which changes the airflow accordingly)->then catalytic converter -> then muffler to the exhaust .
