Challenge

Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

The objective for this challenge was to work on a plastic bottle cap with the above mentioned quality criteria.

After opening the geometry topology clean up was carried out. Further move on to create mid surface generation. I started at the bottom of the cap. First generated the both bottom surface, the second surface having the thread so fill the hole using the new (coons) option. Further created the middle curve con for the thread and projected to the surface and created the thread mid surface and then fillet surface mid created. Then move on to the teeth surface, using the curve middle option created the mid curve then using sweep generated the mid surface, using extend and intersect options made it as per the design. After that move on to the cap outter feature using the middle multi option and generate the mid surface further using extend and intersect made in as per the parent geometry. further move on the teeth on the bottom. Created the mid curve and swept the mid of the teeth further using extend and intersect options made into a perfect attachment to the bottle, the using copy( rotation) copied the 12 teeth. further created the top surface the using fill hole option filled the hole, top thread surface, mid surface generated as preformed bottom. top teeth type design generated using the middle option and it copied and rotated over the surface. While I started to meshing I faced some issues like the face not supposed to perform the mesh due to the mid surface imperfection again when back to the topo and made the corrections, have used tools best, reconstruct, smooth, split, move, number +/-, cut.

I got a good idea from the plastic component, how to approach a geometry in an excellent way and make the mid surface generation with very less time consuming and create good finit mesh efficiently. After the meshing I have 6 failed elements at smaller regions which are bounded.
