Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge
To Mesh the given components with the size of 5 units and to create 1D elements on the following components with the given cross - section and DOF. GIVEN DATA :- a. Rod element:- Translational DOF should be Constrained with RBE2 link Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm
-
Import the 3D model of the bracket into the workspace.
-
Generate the midsurface of the components using the Geometry > Midsurface > Surf > Auto midsurface > Extract option. Select the skin offset option in the extraction options, and define the surface from which the mid surface is to be generated.
-
Create a new component in the model tree and create the midsurface for the other component. Assign this newly created midsurface to the component using move in the organize option in the tool tab.
-
Create washer split around the circular hole feature in the components using the Quick Edit option in the Geometry tab. Set the distance as 5 mm.
-
Create a 2D mesh in the components with element size as 5 mm using the Automesh option in the 2D tab. Set the element type as mixed. To create a finer mesh along the circular region, increase the number of nodes by clicking the left button on the nod value.
-
Create a steel material and assign it to both the components.
-
Create properties for both bracket components and assign them.
-
Use the Hyperbeam tool to create three cross sections, namely box, I and cross section, with dimensions as given in the problem statement.
-
Define properties for the rod, bar and beam under the Properties section in the model tree.
-
Create RBE2 and RBE3 links by selecting nodes along the circular feature.
-
Create rod, bar, and beam elements by selecting the center nodes in the appropriate links. Define DOFs as specified in the problem statement. To create the elements, go to the 1D tab, select element type, and define the nodes.
-
Assign the appropriate cross section, as defined in the problem statement, to each of the elements created, from the properties section.
-
Create mass elements by creating RBE2 links at the required points, and assign mass to the nodes using the 1D tab.
-
Create spring elements by selecting the nodes between which the element has to be created, using the 1D tab.
-
Review the final model to ensure that all elements are created as defined in the problem statement.
