Week 4.1: Project - Steady state simulation of flow over a throttle body
Flow through an elbow with throttle valve (Steady state) |
The following study is an introduction to the problem where the flow takes place when the bodies are moving. Simply put, a moving wall BC is to be implemented and the simulation is to be studied.
These studies are important as in real-life application can have multiple moving elements that would affect the flow. This analyisis gives a good prediction into this type of study. The geometry for this study is shown below

Converge provides an intuvitve interface that helps in stting up the case. The methodology of this perticular case setup is as follows:
As this is a Steady state problem it is initiated and run for 14000 iteration.
A PISO scheme with a Density-based solver is used.
The Boundary conditions are set as follows
![]() |
The grid is generated with Fixed Embedding i.e the mesh near the selected body (Throttle in this case) is finer with the scaling factor given.

Furthermore, the grid is 0.002m in size in all directions.
The Simulation is monitored using the inbuilt plotting functions the results are as follows:
Pressure
Mass flow rate
Velocity
Cells
Conclusion:
The steady state result though not as through as iot shoul be gives a understanding of the flow. This is perticularly important as we undertake the transient simulation we have a base case with out ant move ment.
