Week 3 Verification of Weld Joints

Aim :- Find out the Directional Deformation and equivalent strain experienced by the setup. Identify the weld joint that experiences the highest equivalent stress for 3 different materials i.e. SS, ALUMINIUM & BRONZE.

Case 1. Stainless Steel: In this case, the material of the plates must also be the same. Use Stainless steel for both weldments and plates.

i) Directional Deformation along Y direction.

ii) Equivalent Strain

iii) Weld Joint experiences Max Stress

Case 2. Aluminium Alloy:The material to be chosen for this case is Aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought).

i) Directional Deformation along Y direction.

ii) Equivalent Strain

iii) Weld Joint experiences Max Stress

Case 3.Bronze: In order to simulate "Brazing", you should be using bronze as the weld material. Assign Stainless Steel to both plates and Copper to the "Ribs".

i) Directional Deformation along Y direction.

ii) Equivalent Strain

iii) Weld Joint experiences Max Stress

Conclution:

  • It is clear from the above that maximum directional deformation and Strain in the system is shown in case 3 and minium in case 1.
  • But on the other hand maximum Weld Stress is generated in Case 2, minimum in Case 3 and maximum in Case 1 because of material propoerties.
  • Hence, one can conclude that weld joint of SS material provide heigher strength than aluminium and bronze.
