Week - 3 Drop test Challenge

Aim:

Drop test for mobile phone model.

Procedure:

1. Import the model. Go to File - Open - LD-Dyna Keyword File.

3. It is seen that for drop 2 type of element are given i.e shell and solid element.

so delete the shell elements in the parts.

2. In order to distinguish between the type of element we have to define the section keyword for solid.

Go to Model - Keyword - All - Section - SOLID.

3. Create material for a plate (Rigid) and for phone here considered as aluminium.

Go to Model - Keyword - MAT - 020_RIGID (plate) and 024_picewise_linear_plasticity

4. Edit Part for Mobile and Plate. Assign the section and material to it.

Go to Model - Keyword - Part - Change title - Assign section and material - Click accept.

5. Create a part and node sets.

Go to Model - Create entity - Set data - Create Node / Part sets.

6. Create a Automatic surface to surface contact between Mobile and Rigid Plate.

Go to Model - Keyword Manager - CONTACT - AUTOMATIC_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE.

7. Create a SPC Boundary conditions to lock all the DOF of Rigid_Plate.

Go to Model - Create Entity - Boundary - SPC.

8. Create a Initial velocity for the Mobile.

Go to Model - Keyword Manager - Initial - Velocity.

9. Create a Control Termination card.

Go to Model - Keyword Manager - Control - Termination.

10. Create a Database ASCII_Option and Binary_D3Plot card.

Go to Model - Keyword Manager - Database - ASCII_option / BINARY_D3PLOT.

11. Save the Keyword file. Go to File - Save - Save Keyword - Click Save.

12. Run the Simulation. Open the Ls-Run - Give input .K file - Click ad job on local queue.

13. Open the Kayword and D3PLOT file to run the simulation.

Go to File - Open - Ls-Dyna Keyword + D3plot.

14. To contour von mises stress. Go to the Post - Fringe Component - Von mises and play the simulation.

Max von mises stress = 45.2523 gm/mm*ms^2

Conclusion:

Running the Drop test simulation is done successfully. Creating an input deck from scratch and creating results similar to phone should bounce back in the same direction after the impact is also acheive.
