Challenge

Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger

Aim-For a given model turbocharger we have to conduct an operation of surface meshing and volume meshing on the Ansa software.

Objectives-

Perform target mesh using on all the pids with the mention parameters.

Blade stage 1 -1mm

Blade stage 2- 1mm

Impeller- 2mm

Shaft motor – 1mm

Turbo casing-5mm

Compressor casing-5mm

Inlet casing-5mm

Procedure-

  • Topo and geometry clean up
  • Import the turbo charger geometry on the Ansa and perform the geometry clean up of the geometry.
  • Look up for single cons, triple cons, unnesecery hotspots, and missing surfaces and resolve them.
  • In this particular geometry there is some overlapping situations of the surfaces.
  • To resolve the overlapping surfaces try to delete the overlapped surafecs by using the (Universal delete option) you can identify the overlapping surafecs by using the PID coloured feature on the ansa software.
  • After cleaning up the geometry and resolving all the issues define the PIDs I the geometry for easy access while meshing the component.
  • Meshing the components
  • Meshing the individual PID by using the targeted length which is given in the challenge.
  • Check the meshing targeted length of the PID after meshing use measure tool to measure the nodes to clarify the mesh is correct.
  • Volumetric meshing of the components
  • Volumetric mesh is widely used to define the fluid surface of the respective geometry
  • To perform this operation got to the volumetric mesh option(V.mesh)-click on the Define tab-select Whole Db
  • Then ansa identifies various volume present in the geometry and displays it on a dialogue box where the unwanted one(i.e solid geometry) and keep the fluid geometry(i.e where the fluid on the geometry can be possibly flow )
  • After deleting the outer thickness and only keeping the fluid volume region, the Remesh operation can be conducted using tetra CFD option.
  • After each volume is remeshed, the volume mesh can be viewed for each component.

Results-

Surface meshing and volumetric meshing of the Turbocharger are successfully created and displayed.
