Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger

The model is a Turbo-Charger where we have to create the volumetric mesh.

Import the geometry which looks like the below geometry.

For the above model first we have to do the TOPO cleanup for the single cons and triple cons.

These are the places where the single cons and double cons are present as shown in the figure.

After disabling the double cons we can see the single and triple cons clearly.

This one of the example where we are rectifying the single and triple cons through intersection and then through topo clean up and deleting the unnecessary faces.

After rectfying the geometry this how it looks where no single cons are present.

The geometry is without the cross-sectional edge.

To check the errors in the geometry we can can check the errors through geometry.

As we can see there is warning but not the error i=of triple cons because there are 3 cross-sectional edge which are matching.

Now setting up the PID'S name for the geometry .

The Geometry with respect to the PID'S is shown below.

After assigning the geometry with PID's now we have to the surface meshing as shown below:

1) For compressor casing, Casing Inlet and Outlet is 5mm mesh

2) For Turbo Casing, Bottom Casing Inlet and outlet is 5 mm mesh

3) For impellar is 2 mm mesh

4) For Blade stage 1, stage 2 and shaft rotor is 1 mm mesh

Now after meshing we can see that there is no unmeshed element in it. Which means that the mesh is perfect and can procees for volumetric mesh.

Now, we have to do the volumetric mesh.

  • Selecting the Volumetric mesh.
  • slecting the list.
  • Keeping the components from which the fluid flows and deleting the other components.
  • After deleting the other components generating the tetra CFD mesh for the remaining components.
  • And checking is there any unmeshed portion or not.
