Week 3 Challenge : CFD meshing on Turbocharger
Aim: To create error free geometrical, assign PIDs, Surface mesh & Volumetric mesh for the given target lengths.
Given data: Turbocharger 3D model with open surfaces.
- Blade stage-1 = 1 mm
- Blade stage-2 = 1 mm
- Impeller = 2 mm
- Shaft rotor = 1 mm
- Turbo casing = 5 mm
- Compressor casing = 5 mm
- Inlet casing cover = 5 mm
Procedure:
1. Open the model in ANSA CFD and check for Geometry status with the ANSA Checks tool.

2. Topo cleanup for closing open surfaces & deleting single CONS. similar steps are followed to clean up topo as we did in week 1 & 2 challenges.

3. Assigning shell properties for individual components.

4. Generation of surface meshes for all components of the Turbocharger.
5. Generation of Volumetric mesh for the Turbocharger.
End Results:
The target length for Blade Stage 1 -- 1 mm.

The target length for Blade Stage 2 -- 1 mm.

The target length for Impeller -- 2 mm.

The target length for the Shaft rotor -- 1 mm.

The target length for Turbo casing -- 5 mm.

The target length for the Compressor casing -- 5 mm

The target length for Inlet casing -- 5 mm.

Complete Surface mesh with inlets and outlets

Volumetric mesh
V-Mesh --> Volumes --> Define --> Volumes Detection --> Detect on , whole db (whole database) --> OK

Volumes of all surface meshes (Body Meshes) and fluid volumes will be created. We have to delete all surface meshes and retail fluid meshes for CFD analysis.
Volume meshes are as below.

Complete shell elements after Volumetric Mesh

Conclusion:
1. Geometry cleanup for the given model. Conversion of double CONS to triple CONS.
2. generation of surface meshes. Target lengths achieved as per the given data. Refining mesh at the interface of casings & shafts.
using Macros --> Cut to refine the mesh.

3. Volumetric Mesh generated for CFD analysis.
