Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

With EV_defaults_in file in Load File tab and cargo mass as 500 kg and all other default values, Click Continue.

Selecting the FTP cycle and 3 cycles to get 45kms data as the distance per cycle is 17.77km, and keeping all other default values

Click on RUN.

We can obseve that Required distance exceeded EV range. We can see distance is 41.4km. Hence vehicle will not be able to travel 45 kms with FTP cycle.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

With EV_defaults_in file and cargo mass as 500 kg, and incrementing the number of battery modules by 10. Hence the total is 35 resulting in a nominal voltage of 432V. Click Continue.

Selecting the FTP cycle and 3 cycles to get 45kms data as the distance per cycle is 17.77km,

Click on RUN.

We can see that now the distance is 53.2km. Hence with increasing the battery capacity the vehicle can travel more than 45km with FTP cycle.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

With PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in in Load file tab, and all other values default, click Continue.

Check the Gradeabilty Test box. We can change the parameters by selecting Grade Options. We conduct Gradeability test by varying the values of speed, and keeping duration 10s and all other default values.

OUTPUT:

At 50MPH

At 55MPH

At 60MPH

At 70MPH

We can observe that With increase in speed, Gradeability decreases.
