AIM:

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

ADVISOR TOOL

Advanced Vehicle Simulator (ADVISOR) was first developed in November 1994 at the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory. It was designed as an analysis tool to assist the US Department of Energy (DOE) in developing technologies for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) through the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Propulsion System contracts with Ford,General Motors, and DaimlerChrysler. Its primary role is to highlight the system-level interactions of hybrid and electric vehicle components and their impacts on the vehicleperformance and fuel economy.

For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

• In the parameters of load file select EV_defaults_in and change value of cargo mass into 500 kg
• Continue to select drive cycle

• Change the drive cycle to CYC_FTP and number of drive cycle is 3.
• Detailed information will be obtained with waveform.

• Then keep all the parameters as default and select 'RUN'.

• The vehicle has travelled 41.4 km with the drive cycle of three at zero percent SOC(state of charge).
• The minimum distance traveled by car is 17.8 km with drive cycle of 1 whereas the maximum distance travel by car is 41.4 which consumes 100% of battery in 3 Drive cycles.
• Therefore EV_defaults_in file with the mass of 500kg cannot reach 45km with FTP drive cycle.

In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

• After changing the battery capacity as 30,the voltage became 370.

• Select continue to change the drive cycle.
• After changing the drive cycle ,run the parameters.

The waveform will be obtained.

• From the above results changing the battery capacity as 30 and the distance is 53.3km Therefore EV_defaults_in file with the mass of 500kg reach above 45km with FTP drive cycle.

Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

• In ADVISOR tool Vehicle Input window select PRIUS_Jpn_default model.

• Click continue to move forward with gradeability analysis.

• Select gradeability test and grade options to change the parameters.

• If input speed as 55mph,then the gradeability is 1.7%.

• If input speed as 65mph,then the gradeability is 1.2%.

• If input speed as 35mph,then the gradeability is 2.4%.

From the above comparison we can say that the speed and gradeability are inversely proportional .As the speed increases the gradeability decreases.

Thus the ADVISOR tool helps to analyse about the vehicle paramerets and its drive cycle more clearly and done successfully.
