Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1) For the EV_defaults_in file if the cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, verify whether the vehicle can travel for 45 km with an FTP drive cycle.

Step1:

Load ADVISOR tool

Step 2: Change the load file to EV_defaults_in and change the cargo weight to 500 kg.

Step 3: After Clicking on Continue the Simulation Parameters window will pop up.

Step:4

Change the drive cycle to cyc-FTP

• From the above data it is clear that each FTP drive cycle lasts for a time period of 2477 sec and a distance of 17.77km. In order to verify if the vehicle can travel for 45km, we have to consider the number of cycles to be 3.

Results:

The maximum distance the vehicle can able to cover is 41.4 Km.

2) In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Changing the no of cells to 50, thus the total voltage is changed to 617v

Simulating for 4 cycles.

Result:

Conclusion: With the increase in battery capacity the vehicle is able to travel a distance of 71.7 Km.

3) Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file.

step 1: Load Toyota PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in with drivetrain as prius_jpn.

Step 2: With drive cycle UDDS click on garadability test.

Case 1: Speed 55 mph, duration 10sec

Output:

Case 2: Speed 60 mph and duration 10sec.

Result:

Case 3: Speed 65mph and duration 10 sec

Conclusion : For same duration with increase in speed gradability decreases.
