Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim:
To simulate the given data and conditions of an EV, using Advisor Tool.
Why do we use ADVISOR?
* The Advisor, which is also known as ADvanced Vehicle SimulatOR, which belongs to National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
* It is the set of Data files, which is scripted in the text files as Matlab and Simulink.
* By the use of scripted program, we can able to simulate the vehicle's speed, efficiencty etc.,
Benefits of using ADVISOR tool:
* Estimate the fuel economy of the cars
* Enhances for building CONVENTIONAL, HYBRID, PHEV and BEV's
* Comparing the emissions of the respective vehicles.
* Optimize the gear ratio for varying the performance as well as efficiency.
Case-i) Travelling 45 km with FTP drive cycle:
figure-1 (Loading the input as 500kg cargo mass)

fig-2 (entering the drive cycle as CYC_FTP with no.of cycles 3)

fig-3 (From the values, the car moves upto 25.7 miles = 40 kms)
Verdict:
The vehicle moves upto 40 km and if we increase the number of cycles, it moves upto 45-46 kms.
Case-ii) Changing the battery and repeating the simulation:
Objective: we are doing the simulation of the EV cars to run upto 45 km, by changing the battery.

figure-3 (we are changing the battery capacity as 25V to 50V, to increase its capacity)

fig-4 (by increasing the battery capacity, the car moves upto 53.3 kms)
Verdict:
The vehicle moves upto 53 km, by increasing the capacity of the battery in the given vehicle.
Prius Gradeability Test:
Description about Toyota Prius:
The Toyota Prius is a Full-hybrid Automobile developed and manufactured by Toyota since 1997. Initially offered as a 4-door sedan, it has been produced only as a 5-door fastback hatchback since 2003.

fig-5 (Toyota prius as given in the requirements)
i) at 50 mph with fully electric:

fig-6 (Prius's simulation program)
* Click CONTINUE and there is an option called GRADEABILITY test.
* When selecting the Gradeability Test, Give the input as the speed of the car as 50 mph and select FUEL CONVERTER DISABLED.

fig-7 (By giving the inputs in the requirements in the GREADABILITY TEST, the gradability of the car is 9.7%)
Verdict:
The gradability of the car is 9.7% at 50 mph with fully electric.
ii) At 20 mph with fully electric:

fig-8 (Prius's simulation program)
* Click CONTINUE and there is an option called GRADEABILITY test.
* When selecting the Gradeability Test, Give the input as the speed of the car as 20 mph and select FUEL CONVERTER DISABLED.

fig-9 (By giving the inputs in the requirements in the GREADABILITY TEST, the gradability of the car is 19.8%)
Verdict:
The gradability of the car is 19.8% at 20 mph with fully electric.
iii)Hybrid:

fig-10 (By giving the inputs in the requirements in the GREADABILITY TEST, the gradability of the car is 19.8%, in EV mode)
* When selecting the Gradeability Test, Give the input as the speed of the car as 20 mph and select ENERGY STORAGE DISABLED.

fig-11 (By giving the inputs in the requirements in the GREADABILITY TEST, the gradability of the car is 19.8%, in IC mode)
Verdict:
The gradability of the car is 19.8% at 20 mph with fully electric, hybrid and IC modes.
Conclusion:
The simulation of the the given data and conditions of an EV, and the study about of the TOYOTA PRIUS, which is the icon of the HYBRID VEHICLES era, also has been studied and analysed using ADVISOR software.
