Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
Ans:
Case1: Simulation using the default cargo mass(136kg)

selected 3 cycles of FTP drive cycle

from the above result, when battery SOC ≈ 0 , the total distance travelled by the vehicle is 48km
Case2:Simulation using cargo mass = 500kg

Simulating for same 3 cycles of FTP drive cycle

from the above result, when battery SOC ≈ 0 , the total distance travelled by the vehicle is 41km
Conclusion
Expected total range of the vehicle with cargo mass 136kg = 48km in single charge
Expected total range of the vehicle with cargo mass 500kg = 41km in single charge
Therefore, when the cargo mass is increased from 136kg to 500 kg there is a 14% drop in the total range of vehicle and the vehicle cannot travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
Ans:
To meet the 45km total range requirement with cargo mass 500kg, we have modified the battery capacity as below:
| Before | After | |
| #of mod | 25 | 28 |
| V nom | 308V | 345V |
| Mass | 275kg | 308kg |

Simulated for same 3 cycles of FTP drive cycle

Coclusion:
To meet the 45km total range requirement with cargo mass 500kg and FTP drive cycle, we should have no of battery modules >= 28.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in table and conclude.
Ans:
Loaded PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

selcted gradability test, and choosen the default values:
speed = 55mph
duration = 10sec
selcted 'All systems enabled' option so that vehicle will operate in hybrid mode.

gradabilty shows as 8.9%

Repeated the gradeability test with various inputs as tabulated below:
| Speed in mph | Duration in seconds | Max grade in % |
| 55 | 10 | 8.9 |
| 55 | 20 | 11.5 |
| 45 | 10 | 10.7 |
| 45 | 20 | 13.4 |
| 65 | 10 | 7.2 |
| 65 | 20 | 9.5 |
Conclusion:
Analysing the above gradeability test results, we can conclude that the percentage of gradeability is inversely proposional to speed and acceleration at which the vechicle climbs the inclination.
