Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Q1.

The above screenshot is of the ADVISOR model for the "EV_Default_IN" file. Here we have changed the Cargo Mass to 500 kg which makes the total calculated mass 1508 kg.

Next, we set up the drive cycle as shown below and then hit run. One FTP cycle is 17.77 Km and we need to run it for 45Km or above we need to run it for 3 cycles(at least over 2.53 cycles)

We find that in the final plots, the SOC has dropped to 0 even before reaching the set target of 45 Km.

We use the variable 'distance' from the workspace to calculate the exact distance covered by the Vehicle and we find that it could only travel 41.405 Km and the range is exhausted.

Hence, this condition is failed.

Q2. The Battery capacity in the above example is 308 V comprising 25 modules. So let us increase the number of modules of the battery to change its battery capacity.

When we use 27 battery modules ie. 333V battery pack, the range increases to 44.8V before 0 SOC limit which is very close to 45 Km.

Final setting: With a Nominal Battery Pack voltage of 335 Volts we can achieve this range successfully.

This is the final plot of the FTP drive cycle for 45 Km range.

Q3:

Taking all the default Prius Japan conditions as per factory standards, we perform the gradability test.

Shown below are the default gradeability preset values for the Prius Gradedability Test.

Keeping the rest the same we will change the Speed in MPH and observe the gradeability percentage and draw conclusions. We will use the UDDS drive cycle for the test.

Speed(mph) Gradeability(%)
45 2.2
55 1.7
65 1.2
75 0.7
85 0(Beyond Limit)
Beyond 85 mph NA

Hence, we can conclude that with an increase in the speeds of the vehicle the gradeability also decreases. The vehicle cannot ascend a higher slope while achieving these speeds. Maximum Gradeability will be achieved at lower speeds.
