Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Question1: For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

ANS: fist we open advisor and click to the start to open the vehicle input in advisor Simulator.

And search for ‘EV_defaults_in’ file from load file and click the file to open .

Now and change some parameters which present in EV_default_in file like CARGO MASS TO 500 KG.

AND then click continue to open simulation parameter , the simulation parameter consist of different drive cycle and to create a individual oun drive cycle by giving different data To the Simulink parameter like acceleration test, gradeability test , parameter studay etc.

Now , search for ‘CYC_FTD’ FILE from drive cycle list in advisor tool.

And click the run to get the result

If the cargo mass is 500 with all other default condition can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cyle

  1. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Changing the entry storage to ‘ESS_PB65_Focus’EV and keeping the other parameter similar to the last case.

Then keeping the driving cycle same we run the simulation.

From the result we can see that distance (km) is 17.8 km and the figure hasn’t change but , SOC% at end of 2500 second is 0.83 approximately and not zero like the last case . so this means that , in one FTP cycle it covered 17.8 km and charge is still remaining in the battery , so to get how much distance the vehicle will travel in a simple charge we need to increase the number of drive cycles for which the simulation is performed . we will perform the simulation for 7 drive cycle.

Change the value 0f cycle value to 7 from 1. Then run the simulation.

From the above result we can see that , distance (km) is 96 km and also the% of soc as indicated by second plot is 0% by 13000 second approximately . so in a single charge the vehicle with this configuration can travel a distance of 96 km in a single charge.

3.Perform gradeability test with ‘PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in’ file Compare your results in table and conclude.

In the load file drop down menu ‘PRIUS_jpn_default _in ‘ and rest of the parameter are kept default.

then continue.

select the gradeability check box and then select grade option'

the speed is kept at 55 mph

the gradeability is 1.7 % then speed is change.

the gradeability at 45 mph has increased to 2.2% now speed 35mph

the gradeability at 45 mph has increased to 2.4%

so we can conclude by saying that speed increases the gradeabilirty decreases.
