Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions are set.

here, the max power rating of the AC motor is 75KW. The nominal voltage is 308 volts. The source is a lead acid battery with 25 modules. The efficiency is 92% and the corgo mass is 500 kgs. Then press continue to give the desired drive cycle.

The drive cycle is set to CYC_FTP. The distance is 11.04 miles which means around 17.76km. We assume to take 4 cycles of imput for the batter to reach SOC of 0%. Run the simulation and check the SOC graph of the simulation.

here, we have given four drive cycles, but as you can see in fuel consumption parameter display, the SOC is 0% within 2.5 drive cycles. The distance covered is 41.4km. Hence, the vehicle can't drive 45km in the given FTP cycle.

2. Changing the battery capacity.

The energy capapcity is changed to 353 volts with 28 battery modules. The drive cycle is set the same.

the results are as follows

The battery dischages completely at 2.8 drive cycles i.e the SOC is 0% after it travels a distance 71.1km. So, this proves that by incresing the battery capacity, the distance covered by the vehicle also increases. But many factors such as mass of the vehicle, charging time, type of the battery and the proper cooling system, economical constraints should be considered before increasing the battery capacity of the vehicle.

3. The vehicle to be considered is PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_.

The specifications are as follows:

the drive cycle is default and the gradability parameters are as follows:

Distance = 10mph

gradebility= 23.7%

Distance= 15mph

Gradeability =26.4%

Distance = 20mph

gradeability=25.5%

MANY SUCH CASES ARE CONSIDERED AND THE RESULTS ARE TABULATED BELOW :

SNO DISTANCE IN MPH GRADEABLITY IN %
1. 10 23.7
2. 15 26.4
3. 20 25.5
4. 25 24
5. 30 13.8
6. 35 13.1
7. 40 12.6
8. 45 11.8
9. 50 2
10. 55 1.7
11. 60 1.5

The gradeability of the vehicle is high at 15mph which is 25kmph. High gradeability makes these speeds optimum for prius
