Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1.For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
ADVISOR :
A model written in the widely used Matlab/simulink software environment. This is a tool stands for 'Adavanced Vechicle Simulator' which is used to model different types of vehicles such as some IC engine based and electric vehicles, Hybrid vehicles and fuel cell-based vehicles, this tool is very useful incase of user-defined powertrain or vehicle dynamics and wants to see the following results before the implementation of the model.
Load the ADVISOR TOOL from the matlab command window and select metric system, and load EV_default_in file and change the cargo weight to 500 and keeping the remaining variables same and hit continue to load the drive cycle page

for our rrequirement, we need to use FTP based cycle select the following and it 'run'

as we can see that it can't fulfill our requirement of 45KM as the EV ran out of battery for this type of drive cycle

as we need total distance covered to be 45kilometers and this drive cycle can only complete17.8 so we need more than 1 drive cycle to complete more than 45kilometers. so we can 3drive cycles

as we can see a warning sign pops up which means that the distance is more than range of the current battery pack so the vehicle can not travel 45kilometers but will be short by 3.2kilometers.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation
The current battery capacity is kept as 25. We need to increase the battery pack capacity so that the vehicle can run more than 45km.
So for this we will increase the battery capacity from 25 to 28

hit the continue button and then the next slide will be
As we have to run the vehicle for 45km. select the no of cycles as 3 and then hit the RUN button

So by increasing the battery capacity we can see that the range has been increased to 46.3km which is more than the required range we need.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in table and conclude.
- In ADVISOR TOOL vehicle input window select PRIUS_Jpn_default model.

- Continue to the next window.
- Simulation parameter window will open.
- Select the gradeability test and click on the grade option box, a new dialogue box will open.

- In grade option box we can change speed or duration with respect to our simulation.
- So, for this simulation, i change speed 5mph,10mph,20mph,30mph & 35mph each time.
- Click on All system enabled.
- Click Ok and run the simulation and a result window will open showing different results depend upon input data.

GRADEABILITY : 32.8%
SPEED : 8km/h or 5m/s

GRADEABILITY : 30.3%
SPEED : 16.1km/h or 10m/s

| S.no | vehicle speed mph | vehicle speed kmph |
Gradeability |
| 1 | 5 | 8 | 32.8% |
| 2 | 10 | 16.1 | 30.3% |
| 3 | 20 | 32.18 | 19.8 |
| 4 | 30 | 48.2 | 14.7% |
| 5 | 35 | 56.32 | 13% |
From the above table, we can see that the gradeability decreases with increase in speed. The maximum gradeability during 5mph and lowest during 35mph.
When vehicle speed increases there is a decrease in gradeability.
