Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
AIM : To use advisor tool and simulate the following .
ADVISOR TOOL ,developed in november 1994 by the national Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) , allows users to simulate and analysis conventional ,advanced light , and heavy vehicles , including hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles . The tool allows users to access the effect of changes in vehicle components ( such as motors , batteries , catalytic converters , climate control system and alternative fuels ) and other modification that might affect fuel economy , performance , or emissions .
1 ) For EV_defaults_in file , if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle ? Conclude your observations.
- Type advisor in command window of matlab.

- Now change EV_defaul_in from load file .
- Then change the cargo mass to 500 kg .
- Total mass will automatically change according to cargo mass .
- Now click on continue button after that a new window simulation parameter will pop up .
- Here, change the drive cycle to CYC_FTP .
- Now click on RUN button to start simulation and it will show in new window .

- Here , 17.8 km travel by the vehicle in 1 drive cycle .

- 35.5 km distance is covered by the vehicle in 2 drive cycle .

- 41.4 km covered by vehicle in 3 drive cycle .
Here Warning Message shows that it can travell upto 41.4 km only .
RESULTS :
Here we can see that the maximum distance travelled by car is 41.4 km .Hence , EV_default cannot travel distance of 45 km .
2 ) In above case ,try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation .
- For battery capacity we will change the '#of mod V nom ' describe the battery capacity .
- Now click on continue for further process .
Here first we have change value from 25-27 in # which increase voltage from 308 to 333.

- Now we have given 3 no .of drive cycle
- click on RUN button .
- It will travel distance of 44.8 kilometer .

- Now we have change value to 30 and voltage will be 370 .

- Here we have taken 3 drive cycle .
- Distance travelled by it is 49.1 km.

Conclusion :
- Here we can conclude that by increasing module of battery the voltage of batery increases and the distance travelling capacity of vehicle also increases .
3 ) Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_jpn-defaults_in file and compaire the results .
- Select PRIUS_jpn_default_in file from in load file menu.

- click on continue button .
- Now click on gradeability test and grade option .
- Select the speed and time .
- Click on Run button for simulation .

- First we have taken speed as 5mph (2.23 m/s ).
- Geadeability is 32.8 %

- Here we have increased the speed from 5mph to 10 mph (4.47 m/s)
- Gradeability is decreased to 30.3 .

- we have further increase speed to 15 mph (6.7 m/s).
- gradeability decrease to 24.4%

Speed (mph) Gradeability (%)
5 32.8
10 30.3
15 24.4
Conclusion :
- As the speed of vehicle increases the gradeability is decreasing .
